Radiography Work Placement case study – Emily
In Year 12 I was lucky enough to attend University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust once day a week to observe the Radiography team. The team where incredible I was able to learn a lot, not only about the job role but also how they have to work in a team to overcome challenges.
One of the most eye-opening experiences was observing the Radiographers in the emergency department as they have to work under pressure to ensure that the sickest patients are seen to quickly so that the doctors are able to diagnose and treat patients as soon as possible.
As well as this I was given the chance to watch life changing X Ray guided operations such as a transcatheter aortic valve implantation which where detailed and complex operations but without the X-rays the patients would have been at a huge risk. I also got to see X-ray guided injection which were put into people’s joints to relieve inflammation and pain to give people a better quality of life.
I was incredibly lucky to be given this opportunity and over the eight months of my placement I have developed and learnt skills which I will hopefully carry on using not only in my everyday life but also hopefully in my future career as a Radiographer.Apply
