Babcock Apprenticeship Talk: Inspiring Future Careers

Year 10 and Year 12 A-level students recently had the exciting opportunity to attend a Babcock Apprenticeships career talk. The session was led by Stacey Turner from Babcock’s Early Careers and Outreach team, who was joined by four current apprentices: Grace Gibson, Thomas Lines, Callum Earl, and Jack Quigley. Together, they shared valuable insights into the vast apprenticeship opportunities available at Babcock in Devonport, Plymouth.
Stacey introduced students to the rich history of Babcock, a leading company in engineering, defence, and training. With the support of the apprentices, she highlighted the different pathways into Babcock and how each student’s journey was unique.
Grace explained that after completing her A-levels, she wanted to start earning a wage while continuing to learn, making an apprenticeship the perfect choice. Tom, on the other hand, pursued a degree at first but later decided he wanted hands-on experience. After exploring his options, he found that Babcock offered the best opportunities and is now thriving in the Human Resources team.
Jack’s journey took a different route. Unsure of what to do after A-levels, he wasn’t considering an apprenticeship until his grandfather suggested, "Here! Have you tried Babcock, boy?" That encouragement led Jack to apply, and he hasn’t looked back since—he now loves his role in computer design.
Reflecting on the talk, Mrs. Chalmers said, "It is really important for our students to have all the information and knowledge of careers available in our local area, as well as beyond, so they can make informed choices about their future."
The session provided students with a deeper understanding of the diverse opportunities available at Babcock, helping them consider alternative pathways beyond traditional university routes.
