The event was a great success, providing students with a range of engaging activities. The day was structured into five sessions, each lasting the duration of one lesson.

The first session focused on infection prevention and control, where students learnt about sterilisation and germ transmission. They also swabbed different areas of the school to test for microorganisms, with impressive results that met hospital standards.

The midwifery workshop introduced students to monitoring patients during pregnancy. A sensory workshop followed, allowing students to experience impairments and understand the everyday challenges faced by those with such conditions.

In the optometry session, students delved into the various career opportunities within the field, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of optometrists. They explored the science behind eye examinations, the use of specialised equipment, and the importance of eye health. 

Devon Freewheelers made a significant impact by bringing in one of their emergency response bikes. This hands-on experience allowed students to closely examine the bike's features and understand its role in rapid medical response. Students had the opportunity to sit on the bike, which provided a tangible connection to the work of Devon Freewheelers. The accompanying talk was particularly inspiring, as representatives shared real-life stories of how their quick interventions have saved lives. They also discussed the skills and training required to become a part of this vital service, highlighting the importance of teamwork, quick thinking, and community service.

The nursing session was equally engaging, as it involved an in-depth study of human anatomy through the examination of various body parts. Students were introduced to the fundamental principles of nursing care, focusing on patient assessment and monitoring. A practical segment of the session allowed students to learn and practise basic CPR techniques on mannequins, emphasising the importance of emergency response skills.

Overall, the day's diverse structure and interactive activities enriched the students’ knowledge and provided a glimpse into potential future careers, enhancing their regular curriculum. The dedication and hard work of the college staff, students, and industry partners were crucial to the day’s overwhelming success.
