Former Scott College Students Inspire the Next Generation with Real-World Insights

Today, two former Scott College students, Tegenn and Alia returned to college today, eager to inspire and guide the current students in years 9, 10, 11 and sixth form, on their educational journeys.

Tegenn, a 3rd year Paramedic Science student at the University of Plymouth who studied the BTEC pathway, shared her experiences, challenges, and triumphs with the eager minds at Scott College.

Alia, a 2nd year Nursing student at UoP studying 4 year masters degree in Adult and Child Nursing combined, studied A Levels at Scott.  She spoke about how students are assessed throughout their studies and taking part in clinical skills.

Tegenn and Alia fondly reminisced about their time at Scott College, where they began their academic journey during sixth form. Tegenn pursued the Level 3 Btec pathway, while Alia opted for a combination of two A-levels and Btec courses. This unique blend of academic pursuits laid the foundation for their current success in specialised healthcare fields.

During their visit, Tegenn and Alia provided students with a comprehensive overview of their courses. They delved into the intricacies of the coursework, emphasising the importance of practical placements, personal study, exams, and assignments. Tegenn's recounting of the practical elements of her paramedic course, including shift work and placements in Cornwall and Devon, resonated with the aspiring healthcare professionals in the audience.

Sophie, a year 13 student, expressed her enthusiasm after hearing from Tegenn, "It was fascinating to get a first-hand account, Tegenn was calm and clear about the challenges but also how rewarding the course has been and how much she has enjoyed the practical elements."  This kind of personal insight provides invaluable guidance to students who are currently navigating the crucial decision of choosing their career paths.

The impact of Tegenn and Alia's visit went beyond academic discussions. A poignant moment arose when a year 9 student asked about strokes, seeking advice on supporting a family member who recently experienced one. Tegenn and Alia not only explained the signs and symptoms but also went the extra mile by providing a demonstration on how to recognise these signs and offer immediate support until professional help arrives.

The return of former students to share their success stories contributes significantly to the positive and supportive community at Scott College. The willingness of Tegenn and Alia to invest time and effort in guiding the next generation reflects a commitment to nurturing future healthcare professionals.

In the spirit of mentorship and community, Tegenn and Alia's visit to Scott College proved to be an enlightening and inspiring experience for current students. Their journey from sixth form to specialised healthcare fields, coupled with real-world insights and practical advice, adds a layer of authenticity to the academic choices students are currently making.

As Scott College continues to shape the leaders of tomorrow, the impact of such visits from successful alumni reverberates through the halls, creating a legacy of inspiration and mentorship.
