Discovering Science at the STEM Showcase

Sixty aspiring scientists from across our campus recently visited the STEM Showcase at the University of Plymouth, enjoying an exciting day of exploration and discovery. Held at the Rolle Marquee, the event featured a wide array of engaging activities and incredible exhibits.
Students had the chance to immerse themselves in hands-on displays, from holding giant snails and observing robotic dogs in action to testing their skills in water pressure competitions. These were just a few of the many activities that captured everyone’s attention.
Beyond the exhibits, the students were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the university’s cutting-edge facilities. Highlights included the impressive giant wave machine, designed to simulate real-world ocean dynamics, the powerful wind tunnel, and vivariums teeming with exotic insects.
Reflecting on the trip, one student said, "I found watching the waves incredibly relaxing." Another shared, "This trip has inspired me to consider studying a science degree in the future."
The day was a perfect blend of learning and excitement, leaving everyone energised and eager to explore the endless possibilities within the world of science.
