Scott Lecture Celebrates Our First Year

Scott College celebrated its first year by holding its first ever Scott Lecture. Professor Lloyd Peck, a physiologist who is a scientist with the British Antarctic Survey, delivered the first lecture to a hall full of students, their families and invited guests. The theme for this year’s talk – which is set to become an annual event – was Science in the Antarctic  and Prof Peck said it was “an honour” to deliver the first lecture. The event was presented with the Devon and Cornwall Polar Society to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Robert Falcon Scott, who was born in Plymouth and after whom Scott College is named. “It was a great evening and really exciting to celebrate Scott with Devon and Cornwall Polar Society,” said Prof Peck.  “The audience had amazing knowledge and asked great questions and, I think , had fun too.” Our new small, state school – which specialises in training the healthcare professionals of the future – welcomed 84 students into its first ever Year 9 last year as well as more than 60 Year 12 students and will move from its temporary home to its brand new £5m building in September.
